Cook-off Guidelines

STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES

On May 16, 2008, First Call will be hosting its first Auction benefit at Sunset Presbyterian Church in Portland, Oregon to raise funds for the services provided to first responder (police, fire & EMT) families. Each year First Call hosts multiple family camps and conferences to strengthen first responder families in the Northwest.

The Firehouse Sampler Dinner & Auction will be a unique event with a cook-off between companies in the Portland metro area. Come and show off your notorious culinary abilities and treat our auction guests to your own brand of famous firehouse chow. Wow the audience with your skills and take home the coveted Best of Firehouse Sampler Award. In addition to the competition Kim Nelson, Mrs. Oregon 2002 will host the event and will feature a silent & live auction, live music and an opportunity to support First Call Family Ministries.

Rules and Guidelines:

  1. Each firehouse company or team will choose a favorite main-dish recipe using ingredients of choice.

  1. Each team should make enough food for 300 guests to sample from 6:00-7:00pm. In addition, prepare enough to serve a dinner size portion to feed 50 people at approximately 8:00pm.

  1. During the program, event guests will vote for the Best of Firehouse Sampler Award. (Yes, that means legal prizes for your company). Awards will be presented to the team that obtains the most votes in each of the three categories; best tasting dish; most appealing appearance; best firehouse flair- how you present yourselves and interact with the guests

  1. Each team will have an opportunity to introduce your recipe at 7:00pm. This will be your final opportunity to make an impression on the dinner guests before the votes are cast.

  1. Each team will be given $200 to supplement your expenses. Please save all your receipts to receive reimbursement.

  1. All contestants must be on-site (Sunset Presbyterian Church) and booths set-up by 5:00pm. Doors will be opened at 2:00pm for set-up.

  1. Each team will prepare your food off-site and bring it to the site (Sunset Presbyterian Church) the day of the event. Warming ovens and refrigeration will be provided on-site if needed. We will provide paper products for sampling and dinner.

  1. Each team will be provided with an 8’ table to set up their booth. The team must supply all other supplies and equipment/ barbeques for their on-site demonstration. We encourage teams to dress up their table to represent their fire station.
